Not that I'd ever do that to my baby. I think the hood scoop still provides some cooling to the actual turbocharger.
The steel wheels are also a nice touch. I believe they're his rallycross wheel and tires.

If I ever got a FMIC I would ditch the hood scoop on my Forester XT. It would be super sleeper.

did he relocate the cooler? Seems like a bad idea

looks like it has a front mount.

From the Subaru owners I've known/talked to/almost bought cars from, front mounts do get noticeably better flow, although it's only worth it with a substantial upgrade (you can still support boost with an upgraded top-mount without going the full FMIC route). It's mainly for street cars, of course, but I haven't heard too many horror stories even from people who use their Subies. Obviously you're not going to go the same places an Outback 2.5XT is going to go, but at that point, just get an OBXT.

Very cool, and very well done. The steelies really do make the car, though, and give it an interesting form-follows-function rally look.

It's a trade-off. More lag versus better cooling. One that I don't think is very worth it unless you've upgraded your turbo.

You can see it hanging out in the front.

Looks meh, but it's better to swap, hoods or block the hole if,going FMIC. The scoop increases under hood air pressure, which decreases flow though the front. Chances are its negligible in real world, but it's something. And there is no reason to go FMIC unless it's a dedicated race car with a big turbo. The lag increase isn't worth the small gain made over the big TMIC.

I can only imagine that the nuts weren't tight enough due to the way it bent.

The lugs stayed on, I suspect they were at spec or close enough.
